- "Why Tall People are Fuzzy: An Introduction to
Fuzzy Set Theory"
Abstract
Linguistic terms can be expressed mathematically using fuzzy
set theory. While fuzzy set theory is based on concepts and
operations taken from classical set theory, there are significant
differences as well. This talk will povide a basic introduction
to fuzzy set theory along with a comparison of fuzzy operations
to classical operations. Various applications of fuzzy set theory
will be described.
Diane Lunman - "Square
Root of a Formal Power Series"
Abstract
In this talk we will uncover the conditions under which the
square root of a formal power series, whose coefficients are
in the set of real numbers, exists. We will further xplore this
idea by examining various examples, as well as inquiring into
characteristics belonging to the nth root of a formal power
series.
