Bio 104 - Biological Systems II The images shown below were collected, enhanced and annotated by students in the second semester of our freshman biology course (BIO104/104L). This course involves a phylogenetic survey of the animal kingdom, with an introduction to the anatomy and physiology of animal organ systems. Students collected macroscopic images of their dissections of preserved and dry specimens. The equipment used in the class was purchased with funds from an NSF ILI grant (DUE-9750521) awarded to Drs. Witz and Temple in 1997and an Alden Trust Grant awarded to them in 2006. Images were captured with an Hitachi HP-D50 Digital Video camera (for both macroscopic and microscopic images) coupled to a Dell Pentium II Optiplex PC equipped with a frame grabber card. The images were enhanced and annotated with Image Pro Plus software. After processing, these images were compiled by students into virtual laboratory atlases. Many of the images were included in student laboratory reports.
