The Adirondacks
The entire area of the Adirondacks is a national park, protected by the government from being overdeveloped.
This stunning area is known for its forests, lakes and mountains.
Places of interest include...
- Lake Placid
- Lake George
- Old Forge
Lake Placid
The previous site of the winter olympics, Lake Placid is a town with something to offer anyone. The Olympic Museum is
a must-see if you go there, as well as the Olympic ski-jump area, where you can see the enormous olympic ski jumps towering over you.
If you catch them at the right time you might even see someone practicing!
Besides Lake Placid itself, Whiteface Mountain and Mirror Lake are great places to see.
Lake George
Another popular tourist destination and resort area, Lake George is a great Adirondack area to visit. Take a dinner cruise down
the lake for the breath-taking sunset over the mountains, or spend the day at Great Escape, a nearby Six Flags park. A walk along
the lake presents many opportunities for shopping and relaxing.
Old Forge
A personal favorite simply because I've been there so often, Old Forge is a haven for vacationers. Located at the head of the Fulton Chain
of Lakes, the town is full of activity. Main Street is full of quaint and varied shops, perfect for souveniers. Take a boat tour
through the lakes or rent a house on one of them for the ultimate experience. Fourth Lake offers a wonderful place for
water skiing, tubing, and swimming. Bald Mountain features a trail easy enough for a beginner, with spectacular views from the top.
