The National Science Foundation has awarded Nazareth College a grant of $749,692 to support the Nazareth College Robert Noyce Scholar Program. Through the establishment of the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, Nazareth College will increase the number of qualified and effective mathematics and science teachers committed to teaching in high-need K-12 school districts by increasing the number of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in programs leading to certification in adolescence education Grades 7-12 in the areas of mathematics, biology and chemistry and in childhood/middle childhood education Grades 1-6 (with majors in mathematics or the sciences).
The Noyce Program will provide undergraduate scholarship support and stipends for post-baccalaureate and graduate students. It will also support enhanced advisement for students in these areas and research opportunities for in-service teachers.
The program directors are Kate DaBoll-Lavoie, Ph.D.(School of Education) and Lynn O’Brien, Ph.D. (Department of Chemistry).
