The guest speaker was Jennifer Pennise, a class of 2000 Nazareth College graduate with a B.A. in Mathematics and New York Teacher Certifications in Elementary Education, Special Education, and Mathematics Education. Jen addressed that audience with a presentation entitled, "Are Bees Mathematicians? A Look at the Mathematics Behind Making a Honeycomb"
While at Nazareth , Jen was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society (1996) and Pi Mu Epsilon Honor Society (1999). She was also awarded the Herbert J. Brauer Memorial Award in Mathematics Education (2000), the Sister Therese Kelso Award in Education (2000), and the President's Student Service Award (2000).
Upon graduation, Jennifer attended the University of Rochester for her graduate studies. She began work on a M.S. in Teaching and Curriculum of Secondary Mathematics. In 2001, she put her graduate studies on hold and took a full time teaching position in the Greece Central School District . While teaching 8 th grade mathematics, she continued to work on her M.S. and graduated from the University of Rochester in 2003. In 2004, she took a job with the Brighton Central School District . She is currently teaching 6 th grade Math and Social Studies at Twelve Corners Middle School in Brighton .
During the fall of 2005, Jennifer returned to Nazareth College , but this time took on the role of lecturer. She worked during the semester as an adjunct professor teaching Applied Calculus.
