Workshop Overview Four junior/senior level students who have successfully completed this course have been selected to lead weekly, small group, "recitation sessions". You will sign up to be in one of the groups. Workshop sessions will be held each week on Sundays at 4-6 p.m. and on Mondays at 7-9 p.m. in S327. Once you sign up for a group, you are to remain with this same group for the entire semester (see your group assignments, below). These sessions are designed for you to work in a small group setting in order to work problems that test your knowledge of fundamental concepts in organic chemistry. In addition, these group study sessions are designed to help you remain "on task" so that you do not fall behind. Workshop groups will meet for 90-120 minutes per week. Workshop is designed for you to work on problems related to the previous weeks assigned material. These sessions may cover material that you may have learned either in lecture or lab. Each workshop focuses on a set of problems. The problems are designed to involve you with the subject and with other students. These problems are not homework problems. My expectation is that you will work cooperatively (active discussion and debate) with other members of the group to solve the problems at hand. Furthermore, the group leader is present only to guide the conversation, not to provide the answers to the problems. Many of these problems are not easy. I assume that you have kept up with routine homework problems so that you are fully prepared to engage in the weekly workshop. Follow the link above to view the weekly workshop problems. Weekly problems will be posted 2 days prior to the workshop session. You are NOT to work these problems PRIOR to going to your workshop session! Workshop Groups Sunday, 4-6 pm with Matt Janczak Monday, 7-9 pm with Tom Carroll |
